How to Add a Product, Price and Tax

Add a product once, with its price and tax rate, and keep your product list in one place.

The Products page holds everything you sell. Each product has a name, a price, a tax rate and a unit, so the same details are there each time you need them. This guide walks through adding a product, and then changing it later.

In this article
  1. Open Products
Choose Products in the left menu. The page is titled Products and lists your products. It opens on your active products, and the Status filter lets you look at inactive ones or at all of them.
  2. Choose + New product
The button is at the top right of the list. If you do not see it, your role does not allow creating products, so ask an admin. The New product window opens.
  3. Name the product
Name is the one field that is always required. Use the name your team uses when they talk about the item.
  4. Add the SKU and Category
SKU and Category sit side by side under the name. Fill them in if you use them. Your workspace decides whether either one is required.
  5. Set the unit, price and tax rate
Unit is the way you count the product, for example pcs, box or kg. Default price is typed as a normal amount, such as 0.00, and the list shows it in your workspace currency. Tax rate % is typed as a percentage.
  6. Describe it and set Active
Add a Description if it helps your team. The Active switch is on by default. An inactive product stays on the deals it is already on, but it cannot be added to new line items.
  7. Fill in custom fields
If your admin added custom fields for products, they appear at the bottom of the window. Any field marked required has to be filled in before you can save.
  8. Choose Create product
The product is saved and appears in the list. If the product cannot be saved, an error appears at the top of the window and you can correct it and try again.
  9. Change it later
Use the row's actions to Edit a product, to Mark it inactive (or Mark active again), or to Delete it. Editing opens the same window, titled Edit product, with the button Save changes.

A few things worth knowing

Deleting a product asks you to confirm. Existing quotations that reference the product keep their own copy of the price, so deleting only removes it from future use. If you would rather keep it on record, the confirmation offers Mark inactive instead, and you can switch it back on later.

Which fields show, what they are called and which are required belong to your workspace, so your window may differ a little from this guide. What you can see and change also depends on your role. If you have a list of products to bring in at once, the guide on importing from a CSV file shows how, and once your products are in place, creating a quotation shows what to do with them.
