How to Create a Deal
Start a deal in a minute of typing: name it, say who it is with, pick its stage, owner and close date.
A deal is a sale you are working on, with a value, a stage in your pipeline and a person who owns it. The Deals page lists them and is where you start a new one. This guide walks through the New Deal window, field by field, and what the four numbers above the list mean.

- Open DealsChoose Deals in the left menu. The page is titled Deals, and the line above it reads CRM, then Deals. An old address, deals slash new, simply sends you here, because the New Deal window opens from this page.
- Choose New DealChoose + New Deal at the top right. If you do not see it, your role does not include creating deals, so ask an admin. If you have no deals yet, the empty list offers the same button. The New Deal window opens.
- Type the Deal TitleThe Deal Title is required, and the hint shows the kind of name to use, such as a bulk order and the customer. If it is empty, the window says that the deal name is required.
- Pick a Company and a ContactUnder Company, pick the business the deal is with, or leave it on No company. Under Contact, pick the person, or leave it on No contact. Beside each is a small button, + New Company and + New Contact. Choose one to add the record in the same New Company or New Contact window you know from those pages,; the new record is then selected for you.
- Enter the Value / AmountType the amount of the deal, for example a plain number. The label shows your workspace's currency. If what you typed is not a valid amount, the window asks you to enter a valid amount.
- Choose a StagePick the Stage the deal starts in. It is required, and the list starts on Select stage. The window has no list for choosing a pipeline: the stages offered belong to the first pipeline you have access to. If you have no access to any pipeline, the window says so and asks you to ask your admin to grant pipeline access.
- Choose Lead Source and OwnerUnder Lead Source, say where the deal came from; it starts on Unknown. Under Owner, choose who looks after the deal. The Owner is required.
- Pick the Close DateThe Close Date is required: it is the day you expect the deal to close. If it is empty, the window says the close date is required.
- Add the optional detailsFurther down you can set a Priority and add a Deal Type, a Quantity, a Next Step, a Probability Override and a Description for internal notes. Which of these fields you see depends on your workspace. If your admin made a custom field required, you must fill it before the deal can be saved, and the window says which one is missing.
- Save the dealChoose Save Deal. The button reads Saving while it works, and the deal appears in the list. Choose Cancel to close the window without saving.
- Read the numbers above the listFour cards sit above the table: Open Deals, Pipeline Value, Weighted and Won MTD. They are worked out under the same filters and search as the table, so when you filter the list, the cards follow.
A few things worth knowing
To remove a deal from the list, choose Delete on its row. A window asks whether to delete it, naming the deal, and tells you that this cannot be undone.
You can click a deal in the list to open it. This guide covers the Deals list and the New Deal window only. To see how deals move through your stages, the guide on managing your pipeline shows how, and the guides on adding and editing a contact and adding and editing a company cover the two records a deal is linked to.
