How to Use a Pipeline Template

Start from a ready-made sales pipeline, see its stages first, and use it to replace your default pipeline.

A pipeline is the set of stages a deal moves through. Instead of building yours from nothing, you can start from a template that already has stages and win percentages in place. This guide walks through the Clone from a template page, from browsing to applying.

In this article
  1. Open Templates under Pipelines
Open Settings, choose Pipelines, then choose Templates. The page is titled Clone from a template. If you do not see Templates, your role does not include it, so ask an admin.
  2. Read what the page does
The line under the title says what using a template means: it replaces your default pipeline with a ready-made one, and you can customise the stages anytime in Settings.
  3. Check the Pipelines meter
If your plan has a limit on pipelines, a meter labelled Pipelines shows how many you use out of how many your plan allows. It appears only when your plan has a limit.
  4. Pick a tab
Three tabs sit under the title: For Teams, For Industries and Your templates. The first two list the ready-made templates. Your templates lists pipelines your own workspace saved as templates.
  5. Search the templates
Type in the Search templates box to narrow the cards by title or description. If nothing matches, the page says no templates match your words.
  6. Choose Preview
Each card shows a title, a one-line description and a strip of its stage names. Choose Preview to open the details, which are read-only: every stage with its win percentage, any fields a stage requires, and the picklists the template adds.
  7. Choose Use template
Choose Use template on the card, or at the end of the preview, to apply it. While it is being applied the button reads Applying. If your plan does not allow it, the template is not applied, and the button turns off with the reason shown on the card.
  8. Read the result
A message at the top says Applied, and that your default pipeline now follows this template. If the template was applied earlier, it says so and nothing changes.
  9. Apply one of your own templates
On the Your templates tab, each saved template has a button that reads Apply to my pipeline. If you have not saved a pipeline as a template yet, the tab says so.

A few things worth knowing

Using a template changes your default pipeline, so preview it first and read its stages. You can still change the stages afterwards, because the page says you can customise them anytime in Settings.

Once your pipeline is in place, the guide on managing your pipeline shows how to work with your deals on the board, and the guide on setting up lost reasons shows how to choose the reasons your team gives when a deal is lost.
