How to Read the Audit Log

See who changed what in your workspace and when, and export the entries you need.

The audit log records changes made in your workspace, so an admin can answer who did something and when. It is read-only: nobody edits or deletes an entry from the page. This guide walks through reading the log, narrowing it down and exporting it.

In this article
  1. Open the Audit Log
Choose Audit Log in the left menu. The page is titled Audit Log, and the line above it reads Settings, then Audit Log. If you see a message that you do not have access to the audit log yet, your role needs the View audit log permission, and the message tells you to ask your workspace admin to grant it from Settings, under Roles.
  2. Read the columns
Each entry is one row. When shows the day and time. Who shows the name of the person. What happened shows the action. Record shows the name of the record that was changed. IP address shows the address the change came from. The page shows names, never numbers, for the person and the record.
  3. Read the action tags
The action is shown as a small tag. Created means a record was added. Updated means a record was changed. Deleted means a record was removed.
  4. Change the window and filter
The list opens on a recent window of time. Use the date filter in the table to move that window, to clear it, or to set any range you need. You can also filter by the person, by the action and by the record. The filters run on the whole log, not only on the rows you can see.
  5. Search
Use the search box to find an entry. The search also runs on the whole log, so it finds entries that are not on the page you are looking at.
  6. Open an entry
Click a row to open its preview. It shows the name of the record, the action and the time.
  7. Export
Choose Export to download the entries. The export covers every entry that matches your search and filters, with no limit on the number of rows.

A few things worth knowing

The window you see when the page opens is only where the page starts. It is not a statement about how long entries are kept. Clear the date filter or set a wider range to look further back.

This guide describes the Audit Log page. It does not list which actions are recorded, because the page does not show that. When you find that a record was deleted, the guide on restoring a deleted record shows how to bring it back, and the guide on creating a custom role shows how to decide who may see the audit log.
