How to Hide, Require or Reorder Default Fields
Decide which standard fields your team sees, which ones must be filled in, and the order they come in.
Every deal, contact, company and product comes with a set of default fields. Not every business needs all of them, and some need certain ones to be filled in every time. The Default Fields page lets you tune this for your whole team. This guide walks through it.

- Open Default Fields in SettingsOpen Settings and choose Default Fields. The page is titled Default Fields and explains that it controls which fields are visible and required on detail pages for your team.
- Pick the kind of recordFour tabs run across the top: Deals, Contacts, Companies and Products. Each tab has its own list of fields.
- Read the rowEach row is one field, with its name on the left. A field marked core, always visible and required, has no switches, because it cannot be changed. For every other field, the controls on the right depend on what that field allows.
- Switch Visible to hide a fieldWhere a field allows it, a Visible switch appears. Switch it off to hide the field from your team's forms, and the name turns grey. Switch it on again to bring it back.
- Switch RequiredWhere a field allows it, a Required switch appears. Switch it on if the field must be filled in every time.
- Change the labelSome fields let you rename them. Type your own label in the box, up to 60 characters. The box reads Custom label, and leaving it empty resets the field to its default name.
- Drag a field to reorder itWhere a field allows reordering, a drag handle appears beside it. Drag the field to its new place. On a small screen there is no drag, so Move up and Move down buttons appear instead.
- Reset a changeA field that has a change shows a Reset link. Choose it to return that field to its default.
A few things worth knowing
The screen decides, field by field, which controls appear, so one field may offer all of them and another only some. A field that is hidden leaves the form. For example, a hidden SKU no longer appears in the New product window, and a field you make required is marked as required there. The guide on adding a product shows that window.
This page is for roles that manage default fields. If you cannot open it, you see a message instead, so ask an admin. To add a field of your own rather than change a standard one, the guide on adding a custom field shows how.
